Reading corner: The Willoughby Book Club

This reading corner will be a bit different but fun.

Do you know what the Willoughby Book Club is?

Let’s find it out who and what do they do and what book is on today’s reading corner.

I love books in every sense and format.
Nothing beats the physical book in hand but I don’t say no to Ebooks also.

The fact is that sometimes I want a book, go to the bookstore and search for a lot of books without knowing what t choose, and in the end you will go and take one just because of the price instead of what the story is. Did it happen to you ever?

Recently I came across in the social media with monthly boxes of everything, specially Book clubs in which they have a theme monthly and sent you a picked book, so will always be a surprise every month.

  1. I love surprises
  2. Love books
  3. Perfect!

I search for some boxes and chose the The Willoughby Book Club to try these kind of boxes.

How it works:
You can select to get a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription
Select the genre you would like to read (from baby to Young Adults, contemporary, non-fiction, fiction, etc… you name it).
Pay and wait. Your book will be with you every month, the book will be picked by the Willoughby team and have some freebies for you inside.

The books can be something you could pick or something outside of your comfort zone in picking, a new type of book that you wouldn’t normally buy…that is a surprise… and it will be a good one.

When I got it, I’ve immediately made an unboxing video to show you this month of May box (a great gift for my birthday!!).

The book is from the wonderful author
Sue Monk Kidd – The Invention of Wings

  • Selected for Oprah’s Book Club 2.0
  • New York Times #1 Best Seller
  • Published in 2014
  • 384 Pages

Plot:
Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimkes’ daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

Sue Monk Kidd’s sweeping new novel is set in motion on Sarah’s eleventh birthday in 1803, when she is given ownership of ten-year-old Handful, who is to be her waiting maid. We follow their remarkable journeys over the next thirty-five years, as both strive for a life of their own, dramatically shaping each other’s destinies and forming a complex relationship marked by guilt, defiance, estrangement, and the uneasy ways of love.

Inspired in part by the historical figure of Sarah Grimke, Kidd goes beyond the record to flesh out the rich interior lives of all of her characters, both real and invented, including Handful’s cunning mother, Charlotte, who courts danger in search for something better, and Charlotte’s lover, Denmark Vesey, a charismatic free black man who is planning insurrection.

This exquisitely written novel is a triumph of storytelling that looks with unswerving eyes at one of the most devastating wounds in American history, through women whose struggles for liberation, empowerment, and expression will leave no reader unmoved.

I am going to read it and will let you know.
