Supplements and the new way of home health

FTC disclaimer: This post was sponsored by CRN and as I am a contributor for Mom It Forward, but I am in no way biased on what I write. My Opinion is honest and will always be.

Everyone nowadays takes, at least once a year, a supplement that has not being recommended by their doctors.

The easy access to vitamins or other kind of supplements, and the online “web doctor”, the rush daily and the fact that sometimes money is tight to pay for doctors and medicine, makes us (me included) to recur to common sense or internet research about what should we take or give to our family.

As you noticed here on the blog, It is one of my “jobs” to take care of people and as a wife and mother, to treat my family in any way I can for them to be healthy and notice if something is not.

I have featured, and won’t be the last time, some supplements or vitamins for you to have a little knowledge on what you can find in the market and just to have a proper read and cultivate a bit of more knowledge. I like to read about things that might become in handy, don’t you? A bit of knowledge never hurt anyone.

For example: Did you know that more than 170 million Americans take dietary supplements each year, or that the multivitamin is the most popular dietary supplement, with 75 percent of supplement users taking one, according to a 2016 survey from the Council for Responsible Nutrition. everyone takes a multivitamin, or has a bottle of one at home. So easy to pick up all the ingredients in just one pill right? Easy and cheaper than buy all the pills vesus taking just one little powerful multivitamin pill.

But we need to be sure of one thing: dietary supplements can play an important role in good health, but they are meant as supplements to, not substitutes for, other healthy habits.

Now we are on Holiday season and everyone is eating their hearts contents but when January comes, everyone will be dieting.. trying the “eat clean” diets or the extreme (nonsense) diets of not eating and taking fat burners (which are considered supplements).

There is no such thing as a perfect diet. Dietary supplements help fill nutrition gaps and promote overall health and wellness for the many people who cannot get enough essential nutrients from diet alone.

My main objective in writing this blog post is for you – my fellow reader – to read and have the common sense of taking care of your family with all the knowledge you can gather. and for more tips you can always check the CRN excellent webpage with consumer tips – really worth a read: http://www.crnusa.org/resources/one-dozen-tips-consumers.

A random fact I’ve learned when I was studying medicine: Did you know that for you to have the daily intake of vitamin C, you needed to eat 100 oranges? Too much orange to peel right? So a Vitamin C supplement will make your life easier.

Because of my anemia, by lack of Folic Acid, I use (recommend by my doctor as well) the Acid Folic supplement with vitamin B12. I normally take it for 3 months than make new blood tests to see how it goes. Thankfully the anemia is controlled (at least for now) only by a good healthy living and using the supplement. Acid Folic cannot be supplemented by eating anything, so the supplement is a vital part of my recovering.

Always make sure that they are regulated, for example using the CRN Website: Council for Responsible Nutrition.
