Missing 411: The Strange Disappearances That Remain Unsolved (ep. 79)

Missing 411 podcast episode about strange disappearances that remain unsolved

People disappear in the wilderness every year. Most cases have explanations. Some do not.

In this episode of The Storytelling Podcast, we enter the world of Missing 411, the name given by researcher David Paulides to a collection of strange and unexplained missing-person cases, many involving national parks, forests and remote wilderness areas across North America.

But What Exactly is Missing 411?

Is there really a pattern connecting these disappearances, or are we seeing connections because we are looking for them?

We begin with the story of David Paulides and the research that led him to collect hundreds of missing-person cases. Then we examine four real disappearances:

Dennis Martin, a seven-year-old boy who vanished in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 1969.
Teresa “Trenny” Gibson, a sixteen-year-old girl who disappeared during a group hike in the same park in 1976.
Stacy Arras, fourteen, who disappeared in Yosemite National Park in 1981.
Dikran Knadjian, a twenty-year-old man who disappeared from Yosemite Valley in 1972.

Their cases share certain similarities. None of the four has a confirmed explanation.

Throughout this episode, we separate official records, Paulides’ research and paranormal theories.

Missing 411 has been connected by some people to Bigfoot, UFOs, portals and other unexplained phenomena.

These ideas have become part of the culture surrounding Missing 411, but there is no established evidence proving that such phenomena caused the disappearances discussed here.
