How To Turn A Plain Dining Room Into A Chic Place To Eat

chic dining room

When we think of a ‘chic’ place to eat, we think of faded brick walls, plenty of intimate, leveled lighting, and a dining table that’s packed to the brim with decor.

Knick-knacks can be found all around, and there’s probably some very eclectic plantlife decorating, hanging from the ceiling, too.

It’s the kind of interior design that wouldn’t look out of place in a Parisian eatery, and that’s somewhere we’d all like to cozy up!

As such, if that’s the kind of dining room you’d love to call your own, we’ve got a few room design ideas that you might be interested in. Check them out.

Panel the Walls

Chic, and especially boho chic, is all about showcasing originality and spirit. It’s the kind of decor that lets a room breathe from the underlayer outwards.

That’s why you’ll see so much exposed brick and dusty paint in chic style rooms; the bones of the space are meant to contrast against the excess fabric, texture, and personality that gets laid on top.

So when it comes to your own dining room, you may want to embrace this more ‘natural’ look and use panels to create more of a wood finish on the walls.

After all, you’re probably not happy to actually strip back the plaster and scrape the wallpaper off, so you’ll just need to put a bit of paneling on top.

Go Upmarket with Your Dining Chairs

The dining table and chairs are the focal point of any dining room. As such, you want them to speak louder than the decor around them, and that means you need to go as upmarket as possible here.

You can’t have the main attraction fading into the background, and so much so that you might even bump into a chair because you didn’t see it was there!

Dining sets like those at Shawcross Furniture would be a good fit here. Something more plush, comfortable to sit on, but also looks a bit larger than life.

They’ll draw the eye, be impossible to miss, and will help to cushion out the room and prevent it from looking bare.

Try to Contrast Your Colors

Chic stylings need to bounce off of one another. As such, if the walls are all dusted in light pastel pink, the rest of your decor needs to have something brighter and bolder to it.

A brighter blue rug on the floor, for example, or seat cushions that are a deeper green. These are shades that have more richness to them, and will even let the pink stand out as a result.

And it’s very important to get this color mixing right. Because when you contrast colors and tones back and forth like this, you prevent the space from warping into a colorful blob that just doesn’t look quite right!

If your dining room is a bit too plain right now, turn it into a more chic place to enjoy your meals using the tips above.
