Getting your Kids prepared for Autumn – Let’s talk Health

In my experience in the clinic, Autumn and Spring are the seasons we should either make a detox or start preparing our bodies for the next harsh seasons (Winter and Summer) as these are the most extreme seasons and with them come the normal seasonal diseases/Symptoms, such as Allergies, Skin problems or Cold and Flus.

I normally ask my patients to make a good detox (with good natural options) or to strengthen their bodies with vitamins. A good strength body is a body that will go through better during the harsh seasons and if you have children in school, believe me, that it will be better for them. But remember: Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a healthy and balanced diet. Food supplements are exactly what they are: supplements. A “help” in your nutrition, and if uncertain, ask your doctor or therapist.

School is starting and with it, comes the friends that are coming over from vacation or that are actually already sick, and your children will, in a matter of 5 minutes (of course it takes up to 3 days for symptoms to manifest, but to us, parents look like 5 minutes!) be sick as well.

What can you add to your child’s diet:

Omega 3:

Make sure you add vitamins as Omega 3. Omega 3 can be found most specifically in fish, But to be honest, you would have to eat a lot of fish to get your daily dose of Omega 3… and eating too much fish to create the daily intake, would include probably you could have a problem with Mercury and much more. So to be practical, just pick up a good Vitamin over the counter of Omega 3, you won’t have nasty side effects, and besides of being cheaper, is better for your health and the dosage is guaranteed.

Multivitamin:

A mix of vitamins, such as the Omegas, the B’s, D, folic acid and magnesium, etc, is the best option. As same per above, the daily intake is measured safely and normally with just one pill a day, is practical and no fuss. Plus the Multivitamin will make the fussy eaters have a bit more hungry, rest better and keep the brain and energy last longer at school. Meaning that the antibodies and the defences will be strengthened. If a body is tired all the time, maybe you need some multivitamins. Your body is actually really intelligent, as it will take from the multivitamin pill what it needs. Clever isn’t it? Always remember: If the body is low and tired, it will be easier to grab a cold or anything else.

Vitamin C:

There is a phrase that one person, that worked with me in a Spanish clinic (when I was living and working there), said that I will never forget it:

“To reach the daily intake of Vitamin C in your body, you would have to eat a 100 oranges per day”.

If you eat 100 oranges per day, you will die from Cirrhosis (liver failure). That’s why you should have a vitamin C in pills or gummies. Easy Peasy Orange squeezy!

Vitamin C dissolves the fat in your cells and arteries, help to lower the High Blood pressure and is a powerful antioxidant.

What I am giving to my family, especially to Richie (my little one):

There are certain brands that I like to have at home, That I recommend it to my patients and I trust.

One of them is the traditional Bassett’s Vitamins. They have a whole range of vitamins for the whole family, and now they launched a new Omega-3 + Multivitamins Orange Flavour gummies for 3-6 year olds.

The vitamins have all the benefits of a standard multivitamin but they added Omega-3  and the gummies have a delicious orange flavour. What’s more, it’s been made with natural flavours and colours, and no added sugar. Each gummy is tasty and contains Vitamin B6 to support normal psychological function and Vitamin B5 to help maintain and support mental performance to support a smart way to start the day. I normally give the gummie to Richie after his breakfast, as a one a day vitamin, helping him during the day. As a fussy eater, I noticed that with these gummies, he gets hungrier and eats better – not getting fussy about his food. Which is a good sign! And because the taste of the orange on the gummies, he now started to eat more oranges or satsumas (as in real fruit) because he connected the flavour of the gummies to the fruit. Is a win-win for us as parents (for your child to eat fruit) and for Richie as he gets healthier and gains new eating habits.

I got some extra boxes and decided to give them to friends and family as they were so good, and Sharing is Caring!

The box of Bassetts’s Vitamins are for sale at about RRP £5.50 for a pack of 30 pastilles and can be found practically anywhere, as its a known and trustable brand.

Remember that if you have any concern or don’t know how to proceed in certain cases or don’t know what to take, please be responsible and ask your doctor or pharmacist or therapist. They got the knowledge and experience and are the best people to talk about these concerns or any other questions.

Be healthy, Be safe and keep you and your family happy.
