Zenji & the Muzzy Bug: The Mindful & Magical Sleep Solution by Aisli Madden

The Muzzy Bug and Aisli the author

Every now and then, there is an author that catches my eye.

And we always know that we don’t meet people randomly since, at least for me, there are no coincidences.

This happened with the childrens’ book Author Aisli Madden and her children book series called

I read the Zenji & the Muzzy Bug: The Mindful & Magical Sleep Solution, first as a mom and now I share with my son RJ.

What’s the Story (quoting the book cover):

Zenji the Buddabug is feeling rather unwell. He is stuck in bed and he’s extremely bored… That’s until his buddy Karma appears and takes him on a magical adventure… inside Zenji’s body! After listening to Karma’s relaxation rhyme, Zenji is transported inside his own body where he heals himself from within, and becomes more relaxed with each breath he takes.

Buddabugzz bedtime stories are infused with well-being and mindfulness techniques that help develop self-confidence and positive thinking from the earliest age. Each title is purposely designed to encourage sleep at bedtime and to safeguard and nurture children’s mental health from infancy.

But my first thoughts were:

This is a book I would definitely would love my son to read…heck…This book should be taught in school!… and all parents, in fact all adults should read and learn.

What is Mindfulness?

Is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

I have been doing mediation since early my teens. It’s my lifestyle and is one of the things I want to teach my kids.
It’s beneficial, it’s therapeutic and I believe that everyone should at least try.
It has nothing to do with any religion, is a calm effect… some might count to 10, others may go for a jog to release the tension…I meditate.

And with Aisli book it did happend.

There is a part in meditation where you can visualize. Visualization is the way you see your body or any other thing, for example, feeling cold and visualize a hot day n the beach and you can almost feel the warmth of the sun.

Combining all of this you get a mindfulness session.

Nowadays I think a lot about what world my son is growing up, and seriously I am feeling quite nervous and insecure. We all, as parents, tend to think the normal things: will he be safe and can I educate him to say no to drugs (all kind of drugs, Marijuana included, and let’s not talk about it because it’s still a drug), alcohol, violence, bad influences, etc…

What about making a better world starting with children and new subjects in school such as meditation, such as mindfulness? making our children aware of how they can calm down and take care of them and the others? making them “love thy neighbour”.

I truly recommend the Buddabuggz series and give it:
